Hectares suit large areas such as farms and bushland: a hectare is a 100 m × 100 m square, and 100 hectares make a square kilometre. Acres come from the older imperial system and are still used in some overseas property listings. For house blocks, Australian listings use square metres. Builders and agents also talk about the size of a home in “squares”. A building square is an informal Australian house-size unit equal to 100 square feet (9.290304 m²).
